The rescue of Boon Thong

One of the highlights of 2013 came in the summer. We were absolutely honoured to be a part of the rescue of a beautiful old lady Boon Thong. She was living at a trekking camp in Pattaya, she spent her days chained on a very short chain and living in filthy conditions. Her every move controlled; a miserable life.  She had wounds on her body from poor care and hook induced injuries. Boon Lotts Elephant Sanctuary (www.blesele.org) had been to see her and of course the decision was made for her to be rescued and to live out her years in absolute bliss at BLES. We went to rescue this gorgeous girl twice and it proved to be a journey full of twists and turns. My husband Felix wrote a blog at the time which explains all that went on.

We were overjoyed to finally see her walk onto sanctuary land, she arrived very early in morning, we had travelled through the night with her on this incredible journey and we were so excited to see her walk off the truck and into her freedom. The forest and many Elephant friends waiting for her, her journey was just beginning.
