According to the temple authorities, the elephant dedicated its life to the temple for 22 years after it was gifted to the temple by a timber merchant.

A 62-year-old female elephant named Indira died in Udupi district on Tuesday due to prolonged fever over the past twenty days.

The elephant was living in the centuries-old Kollur Shree Mookambika Temple in Udupi district, which is situated in foothills of Kodachadri hills.

The baby elephant had died on Sunday morning after it got stuck to an electric transformer, on a stretch of the Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary in Chittoor district.

t was an act of vengeance and anger that many would not only be moved by but would wholeheartedly forgive. A grieving elephant who watched her two-year-old calf electrocuted to death near Palamaner in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district, returned a day later to slay the villain who killed her baby – a transformer pole.

Its been five years since an elephant, fondly known as Raju, was rescued after being held captive. Raju celebrated five years of his freedom with a special cake.

An elephant, fondly known as Raju, celebrated five years of his freedom in a ceremony that was organised for him. Raju was held captive before being rescued by an NGO as he spent the first five decades of his life seeking alms for his owner on the streets of Uttar Pradesh. He was kept in custody illegally until he was rescued by the NGO Wildlife SOS in 2014.
